Ready, Set, Go!

Brett was such a big guy this morning. Once again, he was given a pretty sweet hospital gown to wear. We were fitted with matching hospital bracelets (Ernie even got one) and met Brett's nurses.
Brett and Ernie were taken from us at 8:15 this morning. I'm glad that Brett was able to take his best buddy with him. Handing him to the nurse was probably the hardest thing I've ever hard to do. I guess that's just part of being a parent.

The surgery went faster than expected. Once he was open, the surgeon decided that some of the problems originally identified weren't as major as anticipated. Therefore, they only ended up closing the two holes in Brett's heart. They assure us that they other issues will not affect Brett's blood flow going forward.

Cody and I are patiently waiting to see Brett. They are working on closing, which should take another hour, and will then move Brett to the PICU. Once in the PICU, we will have to wait another 45 minutes before we are actually able to see him.

Thank you for all of your prayers this morning!

  1. "Weren't as major as anticipated". Now THAT is a lovely phrase to hear...Way to go, Team Hanavan! Can't get over the cuteness of Ernie in his gown...

  2. Saying a prayer for your Beautiful Boy!!!
    Found you from Courtney's blog.

  3. came over from Pudge and glad everything went better than anticipated! How awesome is that?! My daughter had a complete av canal repair done in May, and the hand off was the worst...
Hoping his recovery is smooth..I'll be back to check...
come over and visit my blog if you'd like a peek at my Brooke (and the others)

  4. Also coming over from Pudge & Biggs- what an incredible blessing to have it be less complicated! Yay! Can't wait for you to be holding your sweet sunny boy soon! That hand off is so hard. Abby had a duodenal stenosis repair last May. Hugs- The hand-back and a quick recovery will make it worth it! Prayers!

  5. We are frends of the Peppers and have been praying for Brett since yesterday when we found out about his surgery. Jessica told me that the 'blessings basket' found a new home with you! We enjoyed it immensely when we were given it back in July. It was the love of God and the peace He brings, the love of people and their support, and the confidance of the CMH staff that allowed us to get through the hand-off, the updates, and seeing Jake after surgery...and the days that followed. We'll keep praying!

  6. You're in our prayers, Brett! Be strong, Little Man!

  7. Over from Pudge and Biggie as well. We met you all at the Haloween get together at the church. My son was the gorilla and I remember Brett's awesome skunk costume. Anyways, sending prayers and hugs your way! Your son is such a little trooper!
